"Smoking Grapes"

"Smoking grapes is a unique piece and done very early in my career. It becomes obvious when you realize that the characters you see do not yet have arms. This was an evolutionary painting before my grapes even had leaves. At the time this painting was done, I could not afford to publish it. I was just completing a cigar series, which had been the focus of my work during the 12 months before I painted Smoking Grapes. This painting was a Segway into the art that I would be known for.
